How to Make Money on OnlyFans: The Complete Guide
OnlyFans is a social media website where creators charge a monthly fee for “fans” to follow their account. After paying your subscription fee, users gain access to your feed where they can view your exclusive content. Creators keep 80% of the money generated by their account, whilst the remaining 20% goes to OnlyFans.
OnlyFans is very popular in the adult industry due to it’s unrestricted content policy, however it also hosts successful content creators from other genres such as physical fitness and modelling.
OnlyFans is a premium social media site, every creator profile has the following tabs:
- Posts – All your content can be seen here, photos, videos, audio, stories, live videos, updates and more.
- Photos – Your photos are shown here
- Videos – Your video content is shown here
- Audio – Your voice recordings are kept here
- Likes – Total number of likes received is displayed here, fans can also see your content they “liked”.
- Fans – Your number of fans are shown here, fans themselves are not visible.
When creating your OnlyFans account you should think about a name for your account, the kind of content you want to post, how often you will post and your monthly subscription price.
You can create an OnlyFans account for a wide variety of content including:
- Fitness Coaching
- Travel Blogging
- DIY Tutorials
- Adult Content
- Recipes & Cooking Tips
- Funny Videos
- Influencer Vlogs
Before we look at how to setup your OnlyFans account and how you can generate an online income, first lets have quick look at the features available to creators.
As you can see, there is a rich amount of features available to creators, with a simple and intuitive interface. We’ll go through these options in detail below:
Post to your feed
Post a status update message
Post a photo, multiple photos and videos to your feed.
Record your voice
Record your voice and upload it as an audio track.
Add a poll
Choose a duration for your poll, add your question, add your answers and post it to your feed. Your fans can then vote by clicking on one of the answers available.
Choose an expiration period for your post
Choose how long you want your post to appear on your feed before being deleted automatically.
Pick a time and date to automatically publish a post you have created.
Add a price to your post
Price lock your post by adding a price. You can only price lock posts with media such as photos, audio or videos. Once on your feed, fans can “unlock” the post by paying the price you set.
To price lock a post on OnlyFans, click on the create post button, add your media, then click on the dollar tag icon, set your price and post it to your timeline.
Go Live with your subscribers
Set a date and time to go live with your subscribers. Once your live stream is over you can upload it as a normal video, this way if some of your fans missed your live stream they can catch up later.
Add to your story
Similar to Instagram and Facebook, OnlyFans has a “story” feature, where you can upload photos or videos which are only visible for a certain amount of time. You can also save stories as highlights on your profile.
Fans can send you tips directly through your posts, during a live stream and through your messages. You can also sell custom content in return for tips from your fans.
Speak with fans and other OnlyFans creators through the messages. You can also use the messages to send Pay Per View (PPV) content to your fans.
Setup your OnlyFans account
Go to the OnlyFans site and click on “sign up for OnlyFans” at the bottom or you can sign up using your Twitter account.
Below is how the signup page looks like on mobile devices.
I covered the email and password fields, but I left the “name” field visible.
Once you have created your OnlyFans account you will be sent to the “Edit Profile” page where you can customize your profile.
Edit your OnlyFans profile
The first thing you need to do is set a username and display name for your OnlyFans account:
- Username = This name will appear in your URL and “@”. For example my username is “homegrownincome” so my URL is onlyfans.com/homegrownincome and my “@” is “@homegrownincome”.
- Display Name = This is the name that shows up above your username on your feed and your profile, since this is not a username you can add spaces and make it look more attractive, so in my case I put down “HomeGrown Income”.
Next you need to add a cover image and a profile photo. The cover image is a large banner that appears behind your profile picture. Upload a cover image that is related to the content that you will post on your feed, however keep in mind that full nudity is not allowed in your banner or display picture.
Next upload a profile picture for your account. As you can see, the “Subscription Price ($/Per Month)” section is grayed out and cannot be accessed. This is because you need to add a bank account to your OnlyFans account and confirm that you are over 18.
You can your personal details by clicking on “add a bank account” written in blue, I highlighted this in the image above. We are going to go through this process in a moment so you can continue editing your profile for now.
Under the “Subscription Price” section you have the “About” section. Here is where you can add a bio for your fans to see when they come across your profile.
When fans view your profile your bio will be hidden by the label “Show more info”, clicking on that label will reveal your bio and additional information including website links.
After clicking “Show more info” and revealing your bio, the tab changes to “Show less” if fans want to hide your bio again.
Use your bio section to let your fans know what they will gain access to when they subscribe. Tell fans the kind of content that you post, for example it could be workout videos, cosplay photos, clothing hauls, modelling photosets etc.
Try and be as descriptive as possible, this will improve your chances of gaining new subscribers since you are making it clear whats fans will be getting for their money.
You can also let fans know how often you post, if you post regularly, you can add phrases like “daily uploads” or “new content added weekly” to your bio. If you offer custom content (workout plans, recipes, photo or video requests, adult content etc.), add this to your bio too.
Under the “About” section you have:
- Location = You can add your location here.
- Website URL = If you have website you want to promote to your fans, add the URL here.
- Amazon Wishlist = If you have an Amazon wish list, insert the URL here.
- Spotify Account = You can connect your Spotify account here by clicking on the “Connect” button.
Once you have finished editing your OnlyFans account, click on the blue “Save changes” button
Add a bank account to earn money
Add a bank account: Step 1 – Submit your personal details
1. Submit your personal details and ID for approval by OnlyFans.
2. After your account is approved, add your bank account and set your monthly subscription price.
To start earning money as an OnlyFans creator you need to submit your personal details for review, once the OnlyFans team have reviewed and approved your account, you’ll be able to add your bank account.
To submit your personal details you can scroll back up and click on “add a bank account” under the “Subscription Price” section.
You can also add your bank details by clicking on the profile icon in the top right corner. This will open up a side menu, on this menu click on “Add Bank (to earn)”.
On the next page add your country of residence and click the age verification circle to confirm that you are at least 18 years old. Once you are done, click on “Next”.
On the page after this you need to add your personal information:
- First name
- Last name
- Post/Zip Code
- Date of birth
You can also add your Twitter and Instagram account names, but these are optional.
Below your personal information you have to upload a government issued photo ID. Under “Document Type” click and choose the ID you want to upload, you can upload the following ID types:
- ID Card
- Driving Licence
Next you need to upload a photo of the ID itself and a photo of you holding the ID next to your face.
When uploading your ID photos, make sure the file size isn’t too large. I tried uploading a 7mb photo and it was “too large” but when I uploaded a 3mb version of the photo it was accepted, so try and keep the size under 5mb or 6mb.
Next you have to add the ID expiration date or click on the circle next to “No expiration date” if your ID has no expiry date. If you are uploading explicit adult content you need to tick the circle underneath “Explicit Content”.
Once you are done, the “Send for approval” button should now be blue instead of gray, click on it to submit your details. It takes 48 hours for your account to get approved. For me it took less than 24 hours for HomeGrown Income to get approved for OnlyFans.
Add a bank account: Step 2 – Add your bank account and set your monthly subscription price
Once your account has been approved you should receive an email from OnlyFans confirming the approval and letting you know that you can now add your bank account and set your monthly subscription price.
Log into your OnlyFans account, click on the profile icon, then click on “Add Bank”, this will take you to the banking page. The default payout method is Direct Transfer through your Visa Card.
This is an Original Credit Transfer (OCT), a new payment system which is faster and cheaper than bank transfers, allowing you withdraw as little as $20 and receive it within 3 business days.
Under “Direct Transfer (OCT)” you’ll see a button called “Other payout options”. This will show you the remaining payout options available, currently Direct Transfer (OCT) and International Bank Transfer (SWIFT) are available.
If you want to get paid by bank transfer instead you can choose this option, however this method only lets you withdraw money after your account has made $200 each time, it’s can be slightly longer than Direct Transfer.
On the other hand, this method works with any bank account whilst, Direct Transfer on OnlyFans only works with Visa and Visa Debit cards.
If you have a Visa or Visa Debit card, stick with Direct Transfer (OCT).
If you don’t have a Visa or Visa Debit card, choose International Bank Transfer (SWIFT).
Once you have chosen your payout method, fill in the details needed and click “Save payout details”. That’s it! Now you just need to set a monthly subscription price and start getting paid. We’ll cover this in the next step.

Set a monthly subscription price
Once your OnlyFans account has been approved and your bank details have been added to your account, you can now set your monthly subscription price.
To do this, click on the profile icon in the top right corner then on the side menu go to “My Profile” then click on “Edit Profile” on your profile page.
By default your subscription price is set to “Free” and the minimum subscription price you can set is $4.99.
I recommend starting off with a price range between $9.99 – $14.99 and running promotions for $5.99 – $7.99 when necessary. As time goes on you will see a pattern develop between your pricing, content and subscribers. You can then adjust your prices depending on how your account performs.
In general you are likely to have more subscribers if your subscription price is lower but don’t be afraid to charge more if you post a lot of content, especially if the content is lengthy and time consuming to produce.
You want to have a balance where it’s not too expensive for new subscribers to join but you are still making enough money for it to be worthwhile. Think of it this way, if you charge $9.99 a month and have 1,000 subscribers, you’ll make $7,992 a month after OnlyFans takes their 20% fee.
A lot of high performing OnlyFans creators have subscription fees priced at $9.99 and even lower, so don’t be afraid to start off low.
Making money on OnlyFans
Now that your OnlyFans account is fully setup, now is the time to start posting content to your feed. Whenever a fan sees your profile, they can see the number of photos, videos, audio, likes and fans you have.
Since your fans are paying for access to your content, you want to make sure that you have a reasonable amount of content available. To start adding contetnt to your OnlyFans profile, click on the Home icon then go to “New Post”.
As you can see, OnlyFans give you a wide range of posting options
Your monthly subscription fee is not the only way you can make money on OnlyFans, you can make money through tips and Pay Per View content. We’ll look at theses methods in detail below.
Ask for tips
Fans can send you tips by clicking the dollar icon under your posts or they can tip you through the messages. If you post high quality content, don’t be afraid to ask your fans to like your posts and tip you if they enjoy your content.
Sell custom content using tips and PPV messages
Sell items in exchange for a tip, you can sell both digital content and physical goods this way.
For example you could sell:
- Workout plans in PDF format
- Meal plan PDF’s
- Physical recipe books
- Photos & videos
- Products you own that want to sell to your fans
When selling on OnlyFans, create a tip menu and list your items for sale plus the tip fee. Pin your tip menu to your profile and tell your fans to let you know what they’re tipping you for.
Tip menu example:
Standard 7 day meal plan (PDF file) – $20
Standard 7 day workout routine (PDF file) – $25
Custom 7 day meal plan (PDF file) – $70
Custom 7 day workout routine (PDF file) – $75
Top Workouts T-Shirt – $15
Top Workouts Drawstring Bag – $18
When you send me a tip, please let me know what you are tipping me for, so I can send you the correct item.
If you are selling digital products, keep them in specific document folders so you can quickly upload and send them to fans after receiving an order from your tip menu.
When selling physical products, try and stick to small, lightweight products that are inexpensive to ship to your fans. Keep in mind that you might need your fans phone number depending on the courier you use. If a phone number is needed for delivery, add it to your tip menu.
If you are shipping physical products using a tracked shipping service, send your fan the tracking number to give them peace of mind.
To pin your tip menu to your OnlyFans profile (of pin any other post), first post it, then click the settings button (the three dots next to your post) and click “Pin to your profile page”.
Use mass messages to provide exclusive content
You can use OnlyFans mass messaging feature to provide exclusive content to your current subscribers. Instead of posting content on your feed for future subscribers to see, you can send a video, photo or a message to all of your current fans.
Since the content won’t be on your feed, only current subscribers will have access to it, making it exclusive. You can use this strategy on your social media accounts to gain new subscribers.
For example you could post this to Twitter:
“For the next week only my subscribers will receive *exclusive content example*, after next week it will no longer be available”.
When you send a mass message, your current subscribers will always have access to the content included in the message, even if they haven’t checked their account for a few days. For this reason, mass messages are a good way to ensure your current subscribers don’t miss out on exclusive content.
If you post exclusive content to your feed using the expired posts feature, current subscribers who don’t check your feed during that time frame won’t see the content, so stick to mass messages so your subscribers don’t miss out.
Subscribers are paying to get extra access to you, access they wouldn’t normally get from other social media platforms, so use the private messages to engage with fans and post exclusive content of you they won’t see anywhere else.
OnlyFans PPV Messages / Pay Per View Messages / Locked Messages / Locked Posts
You can make money on OnlyFans by sending out PPV messages to your subscribers, these messages are price locked so your fans can only view it if they pay. You can send photos, photo sets (up to 20 photos), audio tracks and videos, the minimum price you can set is $3.
You can also send PPV messages to a specific subscriber, for example you might have a subscriber who requested a custom photo or video for $50, in this case you would send the PPV message to that fan exclusively.
To send a PPV message (or price locked message) on OnlyFans, click on the envelope icon on the top of the page, this will take you the the chat page. On the chat page click “New Message”, next tick the “All Subscribers” box and click “Next”.
Write your message and attach the media you want to send, then click the price tag icon to add your price for the content. Next click “Send” and you’re done.
Your fans will be able to see what type of PPV content you have sent, without seeing the actual content itself. For example if you send them a video, they will see a blurred out preview image with the word “video”, the length of the video and the price to unlock it.
If you sent your fans a locked photo message they will see a blurred out preview, the word “photo” and the number of photos included in the message, as well as the price to unlock it.
Helpful OnlyFans tips
Below are some useful tips to help you build a profitable OnlyFans account.
Link a domain name to your OnlyFans account
Buy a domain name and have it redirect to your OnlyFans account so it’s easier to remember. A domain name or URL is simply a web address that people use to access a site.
For example you could buy the domain name topworkouts.com and make it redirect to OnlyFans.com/topworkouts, or buy the domain name iammaryjane.com and make it redirect to OnlyFans.com/maryjane.
Interact with your fans
Have conversations with subscribers who reply to you, engaging with them is a good way to show that you care about your followers. Engaged fans are the ones who will continue paying your monthly membership.
Schedule your content
Create your content in advance and schedule it to appear later on your feed. This keeps your feed active, especially during times when you might be too busy to add new content. Scheduling content is also more efficient since you can spend hours or days creating new content, then you can schedule the same content appear on your feed over a period of time, like a week for example.
Whilst your scheduled content is being posted to your feed, you can use that free time to create new content to schedule, doing this will allow you to work less whilst keeping your feed busy. You can schedule photos, videos, audio and updates.
Post content regularly and talk with your fans everyday. If you go a long time without posting content or interacting with your fans they are more likely to cancel their subscription. Update you feed at least every 2 days, even if it’s just a photo or status update. Show your followers that you are active, show that someone who pays your monthly price is getting what they paid for.
Treat your OnlyFans account like a business, it’s not a get rich quick scheme and unless you have a major following it could take some time to get things going.
Hook your subscribers
Put your subscribers in the habit of coming back to your page by posting content regularly. This is especially useful if you have something you want to sell in your messages. You are more likely to sell something in the messages if you have fans who regular check your page. Consistency is key with any business you start.
Create a custom welcome message
Send an automated welcome message to every new fan who subscribes to your OnlyFans account. Before you can do this you need to activate the feature.
Go to your Settings, then click the “Chats” tab, then look for “Welcome Message For New Fans”, click the gray button next to it. Once you have the clicked the button it should turn blue, this means it’s been activated.
Next create a welcome message that will be sent automatically to new subscribers. Once you are done click the blue “Save” button next to your message.
You can send a simple welcome message or a detailed introduction to your profile. You can also send fans an introduction video, but don’t forget to thank your new subscribers when welcoming them.
A welcome message is a good way to get a conversation started with your fans, they could be unfamiliar with how to use OnlyFans or they could have a custom content request.
Create a sizzle reel/promotional video
Create a short promotional video (1-2 minutes long) showcasing your your best content snippets. Having a sizzle reel on your profile shows new subscribers your best work, letting them know your value straight away. You can also pin your sizzle reel to the top of your profile for all of your subscribers to see.
If you already have another pinned post (a tip menu for example), you can upload your sizzle reel as a story, then save the story permanently as a highlight. Highlights always stick to the top of your profile.
Listen to feedback
Take note of regular questions, suggestions and feedback you get from fans and create a FAQ list in your notes app. When the same question keeps popping up, add the question plus the answer to the FAQ.
This way you can copy and paste the answer to a fan every time the question comes up. Keep a list of recurring suggestions and feedback too, use this to improve your account and content.
Add the OnlyFans app icon to your homepage (for iPhones)
- Go to the OnlyFans site in your Safari app.
- Open the share/export menu
- Press “Add to Home Screen”
- Press “Add” – You can change the icon name if you like
- Exit Safari and check your home screen
Now you have easy access to OnlyFans, you can use it as a standalone app without having to open your Safari browser.
Promoting your account
OnlyFans lets you run promotions by offering fans a discounted subscription. You can set discounts to expire on a certain date, you can set it for new subscribers only and you can set it to expire after a certain number of people have signed up. You can even make your account free for a while.
Discounted subscriptions encourages fans to take a chance at subscribing to your account, if they are not satisfied they can cancel their renewal. If they like your content, congratulations! You now have a regular subscriber who will pay your normal price once their promotional month ends.
Some people could have doubts about the value of your content, they might feel like your prices are too expensive. By running a promotion, you have a chance to prove to a potential subscriber that your content is worth the full price. For example your subscription usually costs $19.99, which is quite expensive, so you run a promo for $9.99 or even $4.99.
If your usual pricing is expensive, this strategy will only work if the content you upload is generous and high quality. You need to prove to your fans that your high price tag is worth it.
To gain more subscribers to your OnlyFans account you can use social media to promote your account.
According to Later, most online marketers follow the one cent per follower rule (or $100 per 10K followers). However you can occasionally pay $25 – $50 for promotion from influencers with 100 thousand followers, as described in our product research guide.
Snapchat is great way to promote your OnlyFans account, look for popular Snapchat accounts with viewers who would be interested in your content. For example if you run a fitness OnlyFans, look for fitness influencers, if you produce Adult content look for adult influencers etc.
Once you have chosen an influencer, ask them to send you a screenshot of their insights, this is important for 5 reasons:
- According to Snapchat, only creators with large audiences have access to Insights.
- You get to see how many views their stories got over the past week and month.
- You get to see the total time Snapchatters have spent viewing their profile over the past week and month.
- You get to see the percentage of male and female Snapchatters viewing their stories.
- You get to see demographic information about their viewers, including age groups they are most popular with, average view time, story view percentage, lifestyle and popular regions.
Ideally you want a Snapchat account with at least a million views in the last month to promote your OnlyFans account, the more impressions your promotion gets, the more clicks and subscribers you gain.
When it comes to online marketing the average conversion rate commonly falls around 2%, so you can use this to predict the amount of subscribers you will gain from a promotion after receiving your influencers insights.
For example, with a 2% conversion rate, 1,000,000 impressions should get you at least 20,000 visitors and from those 20,000 visitors at least 400 should convert to subscribers.
If your subscription price is $9.99 then you get $3996 in monthly revenue (400 x $9.99). Take away OnlyFans 20% fee and that leaves you with $3197 in monthly profit.
Use your social media accounts
Promote your OnlyFans account on your Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube accounts. If your OnlyFans feed contains nudity or adult content, don’t post any nudity directly on those sites apart from Snapchat and Twitter which have a more relaxed content policy.
Add your OnlyFans link to your bio on all of your social network accounts and always use visual media like photos, gifs and videos to promote your links.
On Instagram, create a story, post a picture or video with a “swipe up” caption linking to your OnlyFans account. Make sure the story is relevant to the content on your OnlyFans account. If your account contains adult content, make sure your story doesn’t contain nudity or use emojis to cover the nudity.
You can also promote your account through a post. Post a photo, gif or video relevant to the content on your OnlyFans account, in the description add a caption including the words “click the link in my bio”. Since links in post captions are not clickable you need to direct viewers to your bio link which can be clicked on.
For example you can post:
- Vlog preview (Influencer/Lifestyle OnlyFans)
- Short workout clip (Personal Trainer OnlyFans)
- A photo of you backpacking in Sri Lanka (Travel Blog OnlyFans)
- Makeup tutorial preview (Beauty Tips OnlyFans)
If your OnlyFans account contains nudity, make sure not to post any nudity to your Instagram profile. You can always crop out the nude parts or cover them up with large emojis so your content doesn’t get taken down by Instagram.
Connect your Twitter account so new posts are automatically shared with your followers. (Image).
To increase your click through rates, every time OnlyFans posts to your Twitter account, click on the tweet and choose “Retweet with Comment”. Then add a caption or summary along with an eye catching image, gif or video. If the OnlyFans post is a video you can use a screenshot, gif or short clip from the video to keep your followers a quick preview.
Don’t just rely on OnlyFans to post content to your Twitter account, manually promote content yourself. Paste your OnlyFans link, write a summary and include an image, video clip or gif.
If you have a YouTube you can promote your exclusive OnlyFans account directly to your YouTube subscribers. Add your OnlyFans link to your description and tell your viewers to subscribe if they want to view your exclusive content.
You can also collaborate with other YouTubers and promote each others OnlyFans accounts. The best way to promote your OnlyFans account is to create a video related to OnlyFans or the content you provide, for example you could do a clothing haul video, or Top 10 Workouts etc.
Create a Reddit account and post free content or snippets to subreddits related to your content type. Reddit is especially good for influencers, gamers and adult content creators.
Work with other OnlyFans creators
Pay or tip other OnlyFans creators of influencers in exchange for them promoting your account to their followers. Before doing this, its good to know how many fans the creator has, so check their fans tab or ask them to send you a screenshot of their fan count.
OnlyFans is a great way to make money online if you have exclusive content to offer your fans. Remember to post consistently and interact with your fans to maintain your subscriber count.
I hope you found this guide helpful, if you know anyone who runs an OnlyFans account or plans on creating one, feel free to share this guide with them.
