Pricing for Squarespace: Squarespace Costs Explained

Squarespace is a popular website builder which comes with four different plans. This guide will help you to understand Squarespace’s costs, the benefits of each plan and which Squarespace plan is perfect for you.

How Much Does Squarespace Cost?

Squarespace has four pricing plans to choose from, they also have two different billing cycles:

  • Pay Monthly – Pay for your Squarespace plan every month.
  • Pay Annually – Pay for your Squarespace plan every year (save up to 30%).

The table below details the pricing for each Squarespace plan, based on whether you want to pay monthly or annually.

Personal
$16$12

Business$26
$1831%
Basic Commerce$30$2613%
Advanced Commerce$46$4013%

As you can see in the above table, Squarespace costs $16 – $46 per month with a monthly billing cycle. When you choose an annual billing cycle, Squarespace’s cost per month is $12 – $40.

On Squarespace’s pricing page you’ll see a comparison table of every plan with the costs broken down into 12 payments, even annual plans are shown on a cost-per-month basis.

You might be wondering why Squarespace’s annual payments are shown as monthly costs, this is because annual payments are actually cheaper. By showing you the annual payments divided into 12 months, it’s easier to see the cost savings.

For example, the Squarespace Business plan costs $18 per month when paid annually ($216 divided by 12 months) and $26 per month when paid monthly.

If you plan to use Squarespace for the long-term I recommend paying annually for two reasons:

  • You’ll save $48 – $96 per year with annual Squarespace plans.
  • Annual plans come with a free domain name, saving you an extra $10 – $20.

Next we’ll look at how much Squarespace costs per year for each plan.

The next table shows the total cost of each Squarespace plan after 12 months if paid monthly or annually.

Depending on the plan you choose, Squarespace costs $144 – $480 per year when paid annually and $192 – $552 per year when paid monthly. When paid annually, Squarespace is up to 31% cheaper, with the Squarespace Business plan having the biggest savings out of all of the plans.

Which Squarespace Plan Should You Choose?

Squarespace offers four different plans, the first two plans, Personal ($12 per month) and Business ($18 per month) are good enough for most websites.

The last two plans, Basic Commerce ($26 per month) and Advanced Commerce ($40 per month) are best for online stores due to their rich eCommerce features and zero transaction fees.

The best Squarespace plan will depend on the kind of website you intend to create.

Best Squarespace Plans for Regular Websites

If you need to build a small and simple, personal site with no eCommcerce features, then the Personal ($12 per month) plan is right for you.

If you want to build a general business website, the Business ($18 per month) plan is the right choice for most of you. The Squarespace Business plan lets you sell online but with a 3% transaction fee for each final order total.

With the Business plan you also get access to all of Squarespace’s extensions, the option to accept donations, business email setup with G Suite, Gift Cards and up to $100 Google Ads Credits.

Best Squarespace Plans for Online Stores

If you want to build an online store, Squarespace’s eCommerce plans are better suited to your needs.

For most online stores, Squarespace’s Basic Commerce ($26 per month) plan is the right choice, with Basic Commerce you get the following features:

  • Zero transaction fees
  • Gift cards
  • Accept donations
  • Customer account creation
  • Sell your products on Instagram
  • Point of sale
  • eCommerce analytics

Squarespace’s Advanced Commerce ($40 per month) plan is more suited for growing eCommerce stores or stores that plan to sell subscriptions. The Advanced Commerce plan gives you the following features:

  • Abandoned Cart Recovery emails
  • Sell Subscriptions
  • Automatic and real-time shipping rates
  • Control shipping options based on ZIP code in the US and based on FSA in Canada
  • Create discounts that apply automatically
  • Limit the amount of times a discount can be used
  • Create custom integrations to external third party systems (fulfilment centres etc.)

Squarespace Additional Costs

Squarespace has a fixed monthly cost for it’s services, however there are still additional costs depending on the plan and billing cycle you choose.

Email

Having a professional business email is a must for any serious business. Squarespace offers you a G Suite account free for one year with the Business ($18 per month) plan, Basic Commerce ($26 per month) and Advanced Commerce ($40 per month) plans.

With a G Suite, you get a professional Gmail account which allows you to use your domain name (@yourdomainname) instead of “@gmail.com” for your email address.

Domain Names (for pay monthly plans)

Whilst custom domain names are free on annual Squarespace plans, for pay monthly customers this will cost extra. When you choose a pay monthly plan, your Squarespace domain will like like this – www.yourwebsite.squarespace.com.

You can buy a custom domain from Squarespace but it will cost you from $10 – $20. If you’re paying monthly and want to save some money, you can buy a domain from Namecheap and transfer it to your Squarespace site using this guide.

Just a reminder, custom domain names are free when you pay annually instead of monthly.

Squarespace Transaction Fees

As mentioned earlier, Squarespace charges a 3% transaction fee for selling online with the $18 per month Business plan. The Basic Commerce ($26 per month) and Advanced Commerce ($40 per month) plans have 0% transaction fees.
